Drawing Meditations in Nature

Join Sheldrake and One Small Stone for a 3-week series designed to help you see the natural world with fresh eyes. Through both mindfulness and drawing exercises, participants will be guided to more fully observe and experience our natural environment. The program will be co-led by a Sheldrake artist-naturalist and Katy Romita, a mindfulness-meditation instructor, to promote a multi-perspective experience.

Designed for adults, this program reconnects participants to a sense of wonder and playfulness—regardless of how artistic or mindful participants consider themselves.

Each 90-minute session will include:

– Meditation and mindfulness exercises

– Guided exercises for observing and drawing from nature

– Community conversation and connection

– Meaningful time in nature

Dates: Fridays – September 23-October 7 (3 sessions)

Times: 9:00-10:30 am

Location: Sheldrake Environmental Center

Ages: Adults

Fee: $75

Please register. Advance registration required.

Cancellation Policy: In the event that Sheldrake should cancel a program, either a makeup will be scheduled or a refund will be issued. Participant cancellation requires a minimum of one week’s notice (in writing to scheduling@sheldrakecenter.org), and a 25% cancellation fee will be charged. No refunds will be issued under other circumstances, including missed sessions.

One Small Stone is for people who are looking for more peace in their own lives and in the world…for environmentalists and environmentalist wannabes…for long-time meditators and for people just starting out. Using the tools of mindfulness, we can cultivate more joy, happiness, and equanimity in our own day-to-day lives, while also helping to connect authentically and purposefully to the “big things” that are most important to us.

Katy Romita is a certified Meditation and Mindfulness Instructor and a Mindful Schools Mindfulness Foundations graduate, bringing nearly two decades of experience in a variety of meditation practices. Katy has also earned certificates from Cornell’s Civic Ecology Lab and holds a BA from Dartmouth College and an MPA from New York University.
